Chapter 2 of 5

Our philosophy

Our travel philosophy is simple: travel is better when it is personal. That one idea shapes every route we plan, every guide we choose and every hotel we suggest. Here is what it means in practice, on an ordinary day with us.

Private by default

We run no shared buses and no fixed departures. Your days belong to you. If you want to begin with Hagia Sophia at eight, we start at eight. If your children need a nap after lunch, the afternoon waits. Every one of our tours works this way, from a half day in Istanbul to two weeks across the country.

Depth over distance

We would rather you understand one neighborhood well than tick off ten sights in a hurry. So we leave room in the day. In Balat, that might mean a second glass of tea while the bakery pulls the next tray of simit. In Cappadocia, it might mean an extra hour in a valley with no one else in it. Our longer journeys keep two nights in most places for the same reason.

Honest advice

We tell you what is worth your time, and what is not. Some famous stops disappoint, and some small ones stay with you for years. Our guides will say so plainly. They will also tell you when a place is too hot at noon and better at five, or when a market only opens on Tuesdays.

People before programs

A program on paper is only a starting point. Your guide watches how the day goes and adjusts it. A guest who loves mosaics gets more time at the Zeugma Mosaic Museum. A guest who loves food gets a longer lunch. We trust our guides to make those calls, because they know both the place and the people in front of them.

Our suggestion

Plan fewer things than you think you need. Turkey rewards slow travel, and the best moments often happen between the stops. If you are not sure where to begin, tell us how you like to travel, and we will shape the days around you.
