Cave Hotels

Cave hotels are part of the Cappadocia experience. For centuries people lived in rooms cut into the soft volcanic rock, and many of those houses are now small hotels with terraces over the valleys.

Not every room is the same, so read our full guide to choosing a cave hotel. A real cave room is carved into the tuff, while some rooms are only built to look the part. Ask which one you are booking, and check light, heating and stairs.

The town matters as much as the room. Göreme is the center of everything, with balloons rising right over the town. Uçhisar sits higher around its rock castle, with wide views over the valleys. Ürgüp and Ortahisar feel more like working towns, with wineries and markets.

The best small cave hotels fill early in spring and autumn, so book months ahead for those seasons. Before you plan a balloon morning, read our balloon guide; wind decides the flights, and we follow the official forecast.
