Family-Friendly Private Tours in Turkey

Days planned around children’s pace and curiosity.

About these tours

Our family tours keep the classic places of Turkey and change the shape of the day instead. On family tours, children set the pace, so we plan shorter stretches. Between them, we also leave room for something to touch, climb or watch, with water and animals close.

Family tours in Istanbul: cats, ferries and islands

Start with the animals. The Istanbul cat tour begins with the cats of Sultanahmet and the story of Gli, then walks through Cihangir. After that, a ferry crosses to Kadıköy, where children find Tombili’s statue before Moda. Our page on Istanbul’s cats has more.

For a day on the water, the Princes’ Islands tour takes the ferry across the Marmara. Büyükada is the largest of the Princes’ Islands, at 5.4 km² (2.1 square miles). Expect old mansions and a climb to Aya Yorgi. Heybeliada is the second island of the day.

Rock rooms and a river walk in Cappadocia

In Cappadocia, people carved churches, homes and whole underground cities into soft volcanic rock. The South Cappadocia tour goes down into one of those cities. Then it follows the river through the Ihlara Valley, with lunch at Belisırma.

Water days at Pamukkale, Kekova and Fethiye

At Pamukkale, new travertine is a soft gel that breaks underfoot, so the main terraces stay closed. However, children can use the artificial pools along the old road and a 5,000 m² (1.2-acre) area by the South Gate. The Pamukkale and Hierapolis tour from Kuşadası pairs the white terraces with the Roman theater.

Farther south, the Demre, Myra and Kekova tour crosses the sunken ruins of Kekova by boat to Kaleköy. From the deck, children can look for stairs and Lycian sarcophagi in the shallows. Ashore, a stepped path climbs to the castle and its small theater. The Fethiye 12 Islands boat tour has swim stops in bays and lunch on board.

Our suggestion for family tours

For a first trip, we would pick Istanbul and Cappadocia in 5 Days and add the cat tour. Instead, if you would rather unpack once, take Cappadocia in 3 Days, with two nights in one cave hotel. For the sea, spend your days on boats: Kekova one day, the 12 Islands another. Older children can follow the Lycian Coast in 6 Days from Fethiye to Antalya. Finally, our family travel page shows how we shape these family tours around your children.

Would you like a week of cats, ferries and boats? Cats, ferries and boats change with age, so tell us how old your children are and when you come.
