The hill above Ordu, reached by cable car from the seafront, with a view over the Black Sea.
From the seafront park of Ordu, small cabins climb over the rooftops to a green hill. At the top, the whole city and the Black Sea lie below you. This is Boztepe. With a guide, join our Ordu and Boztepe tour.
The cable car runs 2,372 m from Atatürk Park to the upper station, with 28 cabins, in about 8 minutes on average. Its longest span between two pylons is 860 m. By road, the top is about 6 km from the center. At the top, restaurants and forested picnic areas look over the city.
Our notes for Boztepe
Our suggestion Ride up an hour before sunset, have tea at the top, and ride down after dark.
The line has two stations, and its longest span between two pylons is 860 m (2,820 feet), so the cabins float high over the roofs. In February 2026, the municipality closed it for a periodic maintenance of 60,000 operating hours. Then, on March 24, 2026, it reported the work complete, with damaged cabins renewed. By road, you can also drive up from the Selimiye neighborhood or from the Oğmaca–Yaraşlı ring road. Also, Boztepe is a paragliding site, and the take-off pad was enlarged in 2022.
Before you go up, stop in Selimiye at the Paşaoğlu Mansion. Paşaoğlu Hüseyin Efendi built it in 1896 with stone from Ünye and timber from Romania, and a master builder from Istanbul did the work. Later, the state bought it in 1982 and opened it as an ethnography museum in 1987. Inside, look for the painted wooden ceiling of the upper hall and a small Apollo figure from the 1st century BC. For the trip in or out, Ordu–Giresun Airport opened in 2015 on land reclaimed from the sea.
Inside the mansion, the first floor shows weapons, jewelry and local clothes. Then the second floor recreates the rooms of a 19th-century household, with the main hall, a guest room and a bedroom. Also, the bathroom keeps its patterned tiles, and a fountain pool still stands in the garden. So the museum and the cable car fit into one afternoon, because both start in the center. The cable car is busy, too: it carried about 790,000 passengers a year between 2018 and 2023, and ORBEL, a company of the metropolitan municipality, runs it.
The lower station is in Atatürk Park on the seafront of Ordu. On the coast to the east lie Giresun Island and the old quarter of Zeytinlik; see our Black Sea guide. We plan the ride up to Boztepe in Ordu for the view over the city and the sea.
Would you like to see the Black Sea coast with a local driver and guide? The cable car to Boztepe, then Giresun and the plateaus: send us your days on the coast. See our Black Sea tour and our tailor-made trips.
Because the cable car ride is half the fun. Go up before sunset and come down with the city lights.
