A family seafood table that began on a beach on the Gulf of Saros in 1986, moved to Bozburun, and now looks over the bay of Kumbahçe in Bodrum with the second generation in the kitchen.
Orfoz is a family seafood restaurant on Zeki Müren Caddesi in Kumbahçe, the quarter east of Bodrum Castle. Its terrace looks over the bay, and two brothers, Çağlar and Çağrı Bozçağa, run the kitchen. It holds a Green Star in the MICHELIN Guide, which marks restaurants for sustainable cooking.
The name comes from a boat the family owned in Pendik, Istanbul, in 1973. Then, in 1986, Güneş and Selçuk Bozçağa left the city to retire by the sea on the Gulf of Saros. On the beach of Güneyli village, they opened Orfoz as a small hotel and restaurant: the father cooked, and the mother served.
After some years back in Istanbul, the family opened a second Orfoz in Bozburun in 2003, and sailors soon passed the word along. In 2006, the two sons took over the kitchen and brought it to Bodrum. Since 2013, Orfoz has stood at its present address above the bay of Kumbahçe.
The heart of the table is a tasting menu that follows what the sea brings that day, with an à la carte menu too. Expect sea urchin, scallops, octopus, mussels, squid and the fish of the season. Over the years, the octopus leg, marinated and then baked, has become a signature, as have mussels baked with garlic and herb butter. At the end, the meal returns to the family kitchen with the mother's own dessert.

For more than a decade, the family has also made Neferiye wines from Bodrum and Milas grapes such as Kanlıkara and Panık. The old vines grow among trees, as they did in the past, and the wine ferments with its own yeasts. So ask for a glass with the seafood.
We suggest it for a long dinner at sunset, after a day in the old town of Bodrum. It also suits anyone who likes a seafood dinner with a family story behind it.
Spend the day on our Bodrum city and boat tour, then walk to Kumbahçe for dinner as the light fades over the bay. For more tables on the peninsula, read The 5 Best Restaurants in Bodrum, From Bay to Vineyard.
We reserve your table at Orfoz.
