About Tayfun Yalçın
Some guides learned their stories from books. Tayfun Yalçın learned them from books and then from more than thirty years on the road. So far, he has guided travelers in English for over three decades, and he has held his guide license for more than twenty-five years. Only a few people in Turkish tourism have seen the trade from so many sides.
Trained by the Best Teachers
Tayfun was born in 1973 and grew up wanting to travel. Later, he studied tourist guiding at Ege University in İzmir. There, some of Türkiye’s best-known professors taught him history, archaeology and art history. Even today, that training still shows. He can read a column capital, date a mosaic and explain why a building looks the way it does.

In Istanbul, he loves the old neighborhoods as much as the famous sights. Under the dome of Hagia Sophia, he turns fifteen centuries into one clear story. Afterward, he takes guests into the side streets and onto a ferry across the Bosphorus.
Families are also a big part of his work. For example, he keeps the stories short for children, finds the right places to rest and makes sure the youngest guests come home with a story of their own.
Ephesus, Cappadocia and Beyond
Tayfun’s work reaches far beyond the city. He walks guests down the marble streets of Ephesus and leads them deep into the underground cities of Cappadocia, where whole villages once hid from danger. Along the way, he also adds local traditions and the small personal stories that make a place stay with you.
