Museum Hotel Cappadocia

Overview

The Museum Hotel sits in Tekelli, a quarter of Uçhisar village in Cappadocia, about 1 km (0.6 mile) from Uçhisar Castle. It has 34 rooms, some cut into the rock and some built of stone. The hotel has operated since 2003. Its name comes from its collection, because historical objects stand in its rooms, halls and cave tunnels.

The Museum Hotel and the Tekelli Houses

Cave houses of the Tekelli quarter

Before the hotel opened, this slope held old caves and houses. People used them as homes, stables, kitchens and storerooms.

The hotel grew out of the restoration of these caves and ruined houses. Its rooms are modern versions of the old cave homes, with the bare rock left in place.

The collection at the Museum Hotel

The hotel shows hundreds of historical objects from the Hittite, Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The Nevşehir Museum has registered every piece. The objects stand in the guest rooms and public areas, as well as in the cave tunnels and the restaurant. Tapestries, furniture and other works of art fill the rooms as well.

Where the Museum Hotel Sits in Uçhisar, Cappadocia

From the hotel, the views take in Mount Erciyes, Pigeon Valley and Red Valley. Since it stands inside Uçhisar, the village castle and its valley walk are close at hand, while Göreme is a short drive away.

Uçhisar Castle and Pigeon Valley

Uçhisar Castle lies about 1 km (0.6 mile) from the hotel. From its summit, the views reach toward Güllüdere, Çavuşin and Avanos, among others. At sunset, the valleys take on a reddish glow.

From Uçhisar, the Pigeon Valley walking path makes a walk of a few hours. The Göreme Open-Air Museum is only 4 km (2.5 miles) from the hotel. So a morning in Göreme needs only a short drive.

When you fly in, Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport is about 30 km (19 miles) away, roughly a 30-minute drive. Kayseri Airport is 65 km (40 miles) away, about 45 minutes by car. On arrival, join our Cappadocia tour from Kayseri Airport. We can meet you with an airport transfer in Cappadocia.

Who the Museum Hotel Suits

The Museum Hotel is one of the wedding venues of Cappadocia. It suits couples and adult travelers, since the hotel welcomes guests aged 10 and above. However, the cave rooms come with stairs, uneven floors and low ceilings. For that reason, it does not suit wheelchair users or guests who need full access.

The pool, Lil'a and the gardens

The pool stays heated all year, and the à la carte restaurant is Lil'a. If you are not staying, ask the hotel before you go whether Lil'a has a table for you. The hotel offers a wellness program, wine tastings, and ecological gardens and vineyards as well.
