Argos in Cappadocia

Restored stone houses, caves and a rock-cut hall on the Uçhisar slope above Pigeon Valley, rebuilt over years of work that began in 1996.

Overview

Argos in Cappadocia is a hotel spread through restored stone houses and caves in Uçhisar. It looks out over Pigeon Valley, with Mount Erciyes beyond. The hotel holds Two MICHELIN Keys and has 71 rooms.

Part of it is a former monastery, and weathered stone houses tumble down the hillside around it. Inside, you find arches, vaults and massive blocks of rough-hewn stone. For the wider choice of towns and room types, read our guide to choosing a cave hotel in Cappadocia.

Argos in Cappadocia and the Old Village of Uçhisar

A restoration that began in 1996

Work on the site began in 1996, and the restoration then took fourteen years. Today, the old buildings include a chapel, a caravanserai and a mill house, along with underground tunnels.

Bezirhane and the linseed mill at Argos in Cappadocia

Bezirhane is a rock-cut hall of 137 square meters (1,475 square feet). People once pressed linseed oil there. Today the hotel uses it for concerts and other events.

In the Museum Hall, a glass floor shows the remains of a horse-powered linseed oil mill. Below the glass lie the mill housing, ceramic jars and mule tracks. The hotel remodeled the old chapel as a small room for gatherings and wine tastings, too.

Where Argos in Cappadocia Sits

The hotel lies in Tekelli, a quarter of Uçhisar, on a slope that faces Pigeon Valley. So the village castle and its valley walk are close at hand.

Pigeon Valley and Uçhisar Castle

Uçhisar has its castle and the Pigeon Valley walking path. Because the hotel overlooks that valley, the path is never far away. The walk takes a few hours, so a morning is enough for it.

Uçhisar Castle rises in the same village. From its summit, the views reach toward Güllüdere, Çavuşin and Avanos, among others. At sunset, the valleys take on a reddish glow. After the castle, you can drive on to Göreme and its valleys.

Who Argos in Cappadocia Suits

The hotel hosts weddings, and for company groups, our corporate and incentive travel plans the days around a stay here. Its event spaces include Bezirhane, the chapel room and a garden of 390 square meters (4,200 square feet). It fits couples planning a wedding or a honeymoon, as well as travelers who enjoy music in an old hall.

Staying at Argos in Cappadocia

Restaurants, cellar and spa

The hotel has two restaurants, Seki and Nahita, each with its own lounge, as well as a wine section. Its kitchens use ingredients from within 60 km (37 miles). Argos Spa, a gym and pools complete the list, and the outdoor pool stays heated all year. The rooms come in nine categories, from standard rooms to large cave suites. Since the houses step down the slope, ask the hotel about stairs before you go.
