Maxx Royal Belek

A beach and golf resort at Belek, on the coast of Serik district, beside a Colin Montgomerie course that opened in 2008.

Overview

Maxx Royal Belek is a beach and golf resort at Belek, on the coast of Serik district in Antalya province. Next to it lies the Montgomerie Maxx Royal, an 18-hole course by the Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie that opened in 2008. The resort is modern, so its story is about Belek's turn to golf, not about an old building. It also appears in the MICHELIN Guide.

The resort has its own beach on the shore and several pools. Rooms come as suites, lagoon suites and villas, 512 in all. There is also a kids' club, a spa and a gym, while event and conference halls serve groups. For a company event here, see our corporate and incentive travel service.

The Site and Its Story

Golf comes to Belek

Golf is young on this coast. Istanbul Golf Club dates from 1895, but golf reached Belek almost a century later. Courses began to appear here after 1994, and the national golf federation itself dates from 1996. The Montgomerie Maxx Royal came later and opened on September 1, 2008. Today the resort stands beside it, and the two share a name.

Colin Montgomerie designed the course together with the firm European Golf Design. It is a par-72 layout of 18 holes, and floodlights let players finish rounds after dark. In November 2013 the course hosted the Turkish Airlines Open, a European Tour event. It then held the tournament again in 2014 and 2015.

Where Maxx Royal Belek Sits

The resort lies in Serik, the same coastal district as Aspendos. The ancient city stands about 8 km (5 miles) east of the town of Serik, by the Köprüçay River. The river was the ancient Eurymedon, where the Athenian general Cimon defeated a Persian fleet in 468 BC. Later, in the 2nd century AD, the architect Zeno built the Roman theater that still stands. Next to the ruins, an arched aqueduct runs for about 1 km (0.6 mile).

Perge and Side

Two more ancient cities lie along the same coast. Perge, 18 km (11 miles) east of Antalya, has a stadium and a long colonnaded street. Most of its standing buildings date from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. It is also on UNESCO's Tentative List, and St. Paul came here by way of the Aksu River. Farther east, Side sits on a narrow peninsula about 75 km (47 miles) from Antalya. Its name comes from a Luwian word for pomegranate, and its theater stands where the peninsula narrows. At the end of its colonnaded street, the temples of Apollo and Athena stand by the old harbor.

Who It Suits

Maxx Royal Belek suits golfers first, since the course lies right beside the resort. It also suits families who want a beach, pools and a kids' club in one place. However, the old town of Antalya is a drive away, so a car or a driver helps on sightseeing days. With 512 rooms, it is also a large place, so travelers who want a small house may prefer Kaleiçi. If you want to walk to cafés and museums, the old town is the better base.

Golf, beach and spa at Maxx Royal

Beyond golf, the resort also runs its own helicopter tours, and we arrange helicopter transfers along the coast too. If you are not staying at the resort but want to play a round, check with the golf club before you go. Spa treatments and beach use for day visitors work the same way, so ask ahead. Tee times, restaurants and spa services change from season to season. We book your stay at Maxx Royal Belek.
