In depth
At the end of the day, the old port quarter of Galata turns gold, and the lights come on across the Golden Horn. A private Galata evening walk follows that hour on foot, with your own guide.
The Galata Tower on the Galata Evening Walk
At dusk
First, you meet your guide by the Galata Tower, built by the Genoese in the mid-14th century. In the last light, you walk through the streets of Galata around it.
The Tünel
Then you walk down past the Tünel, the old underground funicular that links Karaköy with Beyoğlu.
Karaköy and the Bridge
Karaköy on the Galata evening walk
Next, you reach Karaköy, the old port quarter by the water, where the port and its business streets grew in the 19th century.
From our guides
Our suggestion On the Galata Bridge, stop halfway across: the domes of the old city stand against the evening sky.
The Galata Bridge
Finally, you cross the Galata Bridge as the lights come on, with the domes of the old city ahead. For the morning light, see our sunrise photography walk. Nearby, our Beyoğlu tour visits Karaköy and the Galata Tower.
Our Istanbul guide has more of the city. For dinner afterwards, we book you a table at Peyvaz Rooftop Restaurant, a few steps west of the Galata Tower, with a view across the Golden Horn. Would you like to see Galata as the day ends? Choose your evening, and we will time the walk from the Galata Tower at dusk down to the bridge.
