Turkish Traditions

Many old customs still shape daily life in Turkey. People hang a blue evil eye by the door, offer guests a glass of tea and end a meal with Turkish coffee, whose grounds some still read for fortunes.
The Turkish bath is still a place to wash and rest, the whirling dervishes still turn in the sema, and village women still weave carpets and kilims by hand.
And every Turkish child grows up with the tales of Nasreddin Hodja, the wise fool on a donkey, whose tomb in Akşehir has a padlocked gate but no walls.
